Session Highlights
At its regular meeting on May 12, the Session:
- Opened with worship and reflection on Acts 11:1-18, giving thanks for the Holy Spirit’s action at Grace, seen in the energy of the children, the increasing diversity of the congregation, the opportunity to serve in the community, and the new members joining, and acknowledging the challenges of growing edges.
- Agreed to distribute the draft 2024 Financial Statements to the congregation. Approval will be sought at the June 1 Congregational Meeting to support the proposed budget process principles as a basis for the 2026 budget. It was recognized that the outcomes of the current strategic planning process will have important implications for the 2026 work plans.
- The accounting firm is expected to complete the Section 4400 Report in June.
- Considered plans for electing new elders next spring and interim steps.
- Agreed to equip elders to celebrate communion with individuals who are homebound, starting June 1
- Approved the request of 10 individuals who wish to become members of Grace. They will make a public profession of faith on June 8. The Session may be asked to approve additional requests in early June.
- Agreed in principle to a request to rent the south parking lot for a music festival, including the sale of alcohol. The details of ensuring the event is well-controlled and addressing risks will now be worked on.
- Expressed its gratitude to Cindy Stephenson, who is stepping down as Coordinator of Volunteers at the end of June. She will continue to serve as a Session Elder. Plans for her replacement are being developed
- Received updates on the faithful work of the committees, staff and ministers
- Closed with a blessing.
